Makaton is a form of signing language used extensively to help our children develop speech. Makaton training can be accessed locally via local Makaton Tutor, Jo Bryenton. To find out more visit her website 

Baby and Toddler Sensory Classes (York)  For classes in the wider district search at this link

 

Sing and Sign York Sing and sign classes for babies and toddlers. Learning to sign particularly helpful to helping our kids develop speech skills however learning to sign is often seen as a "specialist" activity for kids with additional needs, rather than a skill that benefits all children and toddlers that learn it. These are regular classes open to all children of all abilities that enable parents to learn signing in a fun way alongside singing.

Down Syndrome Training and Support Services Ltd (Bradford Group) (A huge range of activities and resources for our families) 

KEEN (Kids Enjoy Exercise Now) For disabled children aged 8-11, trampolining, games and other physical activities, run by University of York students on term time Sundays between 1-2pm email keen@yusu.org for info.

Nuzzlets (Great Ouseburn Nr York) (Petting farm for children with special needs and their families)

 

Special Olympics (York) (a range of activities and venues - swimming @ the Mount School recommended)

 

Swimability @ Energise (York) (special warm water sessions for people with disabilities and their carers)

 

City of York Portage Service

 

Family Outdoor Courses as part of the S.E.N.D. project Bewerley Park (nr Pateley Bridge) Outdoor family activity days which include canoeing, zip wires, gorge walking and other activities. Primarily suitable for families with disabled children over 7 years however younger children have been included in the past. Please email Kate.Crawford@northyorks.gov.uk for further info.  

York Disability Tennis Network, providing opportunities for people with various additional needs to play Tennis.
